A central registry dealing with the implantation of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD).
start of the project: 12/2009
Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) is the basic treatment option for cardiac arrhythmia and is implanted in patients who are at risk of sudden cardiac death. Indications for ICD implantation are summarized in the Guidelines for implantation of cardiac pacemakers, implantable cardioverters-defibrillators (ICD) and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) systems. Clinical trials have confirmed ICD implantation to be a more effective therapy than treatment with antiarrhythmic drugs. The Kardio-ICD project creates a central registry for a systematic collection of data on ICD implantations.
